In case you missed the original post of our Guest Bedroom mood board, here's the vibe we're going for:

Luxurious & Neutral Guest Bedroom Mood Board

Today's post is all about the Wall Art section of the mood board, where I got inspiration from some beautiful designer pieces:

You can go to the mood board post for links to the products shown above, but the total for these exact pieces is $1,037.00!

Now don't get me wrong- I love my guests that are going to be staying with us, but Adrian and I didn't feel like spending that much on a mirror and some wall art- so I decided to use these pieces as DIY inspiration. Using leftover fabric and shadow boxes I created this stunning wall art that brings a unique and stylish flair to the room. And the best part? Since all I needed for this project was a mirror (got this one from HomeGoods for $79.99) and shadow boxes ($39.99 each), I was able to create this same wall design for just $160!

Join me as I guide you through this easy and affordable DIY project that promises to elevate our guest bedroom. So, get ready to be inspired by how a little creativity can go a long way in getting the designer look for less!

DIY Wall Art Using Leftover Fabric and Shadow Boxes

Before we get started, here's a list of what you'll need:

Materials

Step 1: Gather Your Materials & Determine Sizing

Before you begin, determine the frame size that will be best for your space. I went with these 16x20 shadow boxes from Amazon. I was really impressed with how these came packaged and instead of the frame being made with plastic or acrylic, it's made of glass and wood, so it looks really nice in person.

Step 2: Cut & Set Up Fabric Design

I mentioned this in the materials list, but a fabric that's thicker and textured will work best and give the most interest when it's in the shadow box. Play around with the design you'd like. Since I had quite a bit of fabric leftover, I decided to fold it accordion style to get more dimension.

Once the fabric is arranged how you want it, use some of the pins that come with the shadow box to secure it into place.

Step 3: Secure the Fabric

Carefully place the fabric over to the shadow box backing and remove the pins. Before glueing the fabric down onto the felt, make sure you're completely happy with the placement and design.

Once you've determined everything is good to go, start glueing! I started at the ends first and then each fold of the fabric. After those were done, I went in around the perimeter and glued everything else down.

Step 4: Assemble the Shadow Box

Hot glue dries pretty quickly, but I wanted to make sure everything with fully cured so I waited until the next day to put the shadow box together. Before securing the backing to the frame, make sure the fabric looks centered, and everything is nice and neat. There's nothing worse than getting ready to hang your masterpiece and noticing there's a little dusty or piece of dirt in there.

Step 5: Hang and Enjoy

Carefully measure and use the appropriate hanging hardware to ensure your shadow box is securely mounted. Then step back and admire your masterpiece!
