There's something special about creating a space that makes your guests feel right at home. We've been slowly chipping away on the main living areas in our home since moving in ten months ago, and now it's time to put some focus into designing and decorating the guest bedroom!
Setting the Stage for Luxury and Comfort
When we started planning the transformation, we knew we wanted a room that was more than just a place for our guests to sleep. Our vision was a warm, inviting and luxurious space that would make our guests feel pampered and right at home from the moment they walked in. To bring this vision to life, we turned to a tried-and-true design tool all the professionals use: the mood board.
This was my first time creating and using a mood board to design a space. I typically just have it all up in my head, but I've been wanting to be more intentional with decorating our home and with spending our money. Creating this mood board allowed us to visualize the room's potential and experiment with different colors and decorative objects before purchasing them.
The Inspiration Behind our Mood Board
Our guest bedroom mood board is a continuation of the vibe we want to convey in the rest of the home: a blend of comfort and sophistication combining soft neutrals, a combination of elegant and old-world style accents and luxurious touches. We want every detail to reflect the warmth and hospitality that we feel when hosting family and friends. From the plush bedding to the cozy reading/coffee nook, each element is being chosen with care and thoughtfulness.
We imagined our guests sinking into a soft and cozy bed with beautiful linens, soothing colors and tasteful decor. Soft lighting, textured fabrics, and a few well-placed accessories would add layers of comfort and style. We wanted the room to feel like a retreat, a place where our guests could unwind and feel at home.

Welcome to Part 1 of this journey: sharing our guest bedroom mood board and inspiration!
I mentioned in the intro, one of the reasons we created a mood board for this project was to be intentional about what we purchase for this project, which in turn will help us stay on budget. One skill I've gotten pretty good at is finding designer looking items for a much more affordable price at stores like Home Goods or by creating my own DIY version. Below I'll be listing the sources for everything on our guest bedroom mood board. Some things we already have and will be using, others are higher end items that will serve as inspiration for other budget friendly or DIY options.
Bed, Textiles, Nightstands, Lamps & Accessories
Like I mentioned, some of these items we already and have and some we need to start purchasing and/or DIY'ing.
Reading & Coffee Corner
This little spot is going to be so cute, I can not wait! Here's the lowdown of what we'll need to purchase and what we currently have for this area of the room.
Chair: Need to Purchase
Side Table: Already Have
Orchid: Need to Purchase
Curtain Rod & Rings: Need to Purchase
Curtains: Already Have
Wall Art
When you walk into the guest bedroom, to the right of the bed there's a big, long, blank wall. Our idea is to hang a mirror in the middle with two DIY pieces of art on either side.
One of my BFF's from Virginia is coming to stay with us in July so we have seven weeks to transform this bedroom. I hope y'all are as excited as we are to get started and watch the progress unfold. Come on back for weekly updates, DIY's and tips and tricks we'll be sharing along the way!
